With the summer holidays drawing to a close, it’s once again time to prep your space for a jam-packed back-to-school routine. From buying new school supplies, finding the last-known location of the school uniforms and stocking the pantry full of after-school snacks, we know you’ve got a lot on your plate. So, here are some tips for maintaining organisation in the chaos!

Routine is key

Look, we know routines can get a little loose during the summer break. Between summer camps, road trips and unexpected guests, it can be difficult to keep on top of your cleaning routine. In the lead-up to school, it is important to begin implementing a set cleaning routine. Spread chores across a few days of the week and mark specific cleaning days in a calendar displayed in the living space so all members of the family can begin to implement the routine. We recommend starting the week off right with laundry on Monday before diving into kitchen and bathroom surface cleans midweek and tackling the floors at the end of the week for a weekend refresh.

Reorganisation

Nothing spells out a new year and fresh beginnings quite like a bit of reorganisation. We’re sure the kids are brimming with ideas having spent extra time in the house over the last few weeks. Sit down with the family and make a list of what is and isn’t working in your current setup. Maybe the kids need a new tall boy or you’re ready to part with that chair you said you’d re-upholster over the break… all options should be on the table.

Pantry clear out

During the summer break, it’s hard to keep track of what is and isn’t in the pantry, but with the return of school lunches, there’s no better time for a pantry clear out. Set up a make-shift kitchen sorting station and recruit your little helpers to determine what’s a toss or not. Once you’ve cleared out all unnecessary pantry items, you can compile a back-to-school lunches shopping list, knowing you won’t be making repeat purchases.
